Surah Abasa is the Quran's 80th chapter (surah). Its name, "Abasa," means "He frowned" in English. This surah contains 42 verses.
Surah Abasa tells the story of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) conversing with a blind man named Ibn Umm Maktum while attempting to deliver the message of Islam to a group of powerful Quraysh officials. During their talk, the Prophet scowled and turned away from Ibn Umm Maktum, prompting the revelation of this surah.
