2025 Quran memorized

Millions of Muslims worldwide go on the path to become Hafiz, and many succeed each year through independent study or religious institutions (madrasas). Nevertheless, there isn’t a single, centralized database that can identify every person who has converted to Hafiz by July 29, 2025, globally. Only a small portion of these people are highlighted by competitions such as Hafiz Indonesia or comparable initiatives in nations like Pakistan, Malaysia, and Egypt.

Muhammad Azzam Ubaidillah, a fourth-grade student at Hidayatullah Integral Elementary School in Depok, has become a public figure for his extraordinary achievements at such a young age. Born in Depok on November 23, 2014, Azzam has already memorized 12 chapters of the Quran and earned numerous awards in both religious and academic fields. Despite his busy school schedule, he actively participates in various competitions, including winning first place in the 2025 Depok Qur’an Recitation Competition (MHQ) and earning a bronze medal in Natural Sciences (IPA) at the national level in 2022.

Azzam’s love for the Quran grew from an early age, thanks to the strong support of his parents, Muhammad Dani and Wike Wedya Lastin, who are from South Bengkulu. When he entered elementary school, Azzam consciously chose a school that supported his desire to memorize the Quran. Since first grade, he began the memorization process, eventually achieving his school goal of memorizing all 12 chapters by third grade.

The key to Azzam’s success is the synergy between school and family. He acknowledges the crucial role of teachers, ustaz, and ustazah at school in teaching the Quran, which is further reinforced through his mother’s guidance and support at home. The consistent practice of recitation and recitation serves as a foundation for strengthening memorization and maintaining spiritual discipline.

Despite coming from a family without a background in Quran memorization, Azzam uses this as motivation to be a light for his family. He hopes his efforts will bring blessings and inspiration, not only to himself but also to his parents, teachers, and those around him. “I want to be a light in my family,” Azzam said in an interview.

Despite his numerous achievements, Azzam remains humble. He even admitted he doesn’t know if he has become an inspiration to others. For him, the process he has undergone so far—including the synergy between home and school—is something natural and needs to be done together. He emphasized that memorizing the Quran is not easy, but Allah SWT will help His servants who have the intention and earnest effort.

His mother, in a touching testimony, expressed her pride in her eldest son’s determination. “We are grateful to Allah for blessing us with a child like Azzam. Umma is proud that you never give up and always strive to do your best,” she said. Emotional support from his family is one of the main factors that continues to encourage Azzam to maintain his memorization and continue the struggle he has begun.

Through his interview, Azzam also conveyed an important message to the younger generation: love the Quran from an early age. He believes that a foundation of faith and morals must be built from an early age so that worship, including reading the Quran, becomes a necessity, not just an obligation. He encouraged his peers to work together to preserve and teach the Quran as a form of love for the Islamic way of life.
